The Market At River Falls procures the freshest seafood in the Washington DC area. We have unique relationships with our vendors (many which have been in place for over 25 years). We work with small independent fishermen from Maine to Florida providing us with fish which is literally one day from the water. We also overnight fresh products from The West Coast and Alaska and as a result, receive fresh seafood which most restaurants and markets never see. We hand cut all of our fish in small quantities to provide the finest quality fillets. We will be happy to cut your fish to order or fill your special order needs.
We source our seafood very carefully and very proudly, as we are always concerned with your health and safety, and the sustainability of the supply coming from the oceans. We buy fish from only those whom we know, and every piece of fish you buy from us can be traced back to the captain and the boat who caught it. Additionally, we pay to have the temperature of the product recorded during every step of its journey from the dock where the boat unloads until it arrives at our back door.
Regarding shellfish, our standards are just as high. The largest global producers of crabmeat and shrimp are The Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, ( not necessarily in order ) and other Far Eastern countries. We simply do not know enough about the farming of the product, the cleanliness of the water, the labor practices, etc., to feel good about sourcing products from this region. While it is more expensive to do so, we make certain that all of our shellfish come from the USA, Canada, or countries to the South which fish from the Gulf of Mexico. Remember, if we wouldn’t feed it to our grandchildren, we won’t sell it to you!

The year round star of our seafood show is Nora Pouillon’s Blue Circle Salmon. Our dear friend Nora was unable to source any clean (no dye, antibiotics, etc. ) farmed Salmon for her certified organic restaurant in DC, ‘Nora’ so she partnered with two others and they started their own Salmon Farm in Norway. The salmon is flown nonstop from Oslo to Dulles several times a week so that we can insure that your fish is as fresh as possible. In addition to being clean and fresh, Nora’s Blue Circle Salmon eats like silk…..try it once and you will be sure to come back for more!
We have a unique relationship with Harris Crab House located at The Kent Narrows Bridge to provide our market with Jumbo Steamed Maryland Crabs between May and October. These spectacular Crabs are hand selected and shipped to us overnight. We sell our Crabs by the each, dozen or bushel. Please inquire regarding prices. Furthermore we carry Fresh genuine Maryland Jumbo Lump Crabmeat through the summer and fall Months. There is nothing quite like the flavor and freshness of this outstanding Crabmeat.
Much of our fresh Fish and Shrimp come from Coastal North Carolina. We work with individual “day boat” fishermen assuring us of products caught the day before it is in our market and restaurant. From Black Grouper and American Red Snapper, to Swordfish and Yellowfin Tuna, even Fresh Jumbo Shrimp (Never Frozen), our North Carolina Seafood Program is fantastic.
We pride ourselves on having at least 20 different types of fresh fish and 10 types of fresh shellfish available every single day of the year.
We receive deliveries of fresh seafood 7 days a week ( yes, sometimes on Sunday! ) from large seafood distributors, Chesapeake Bay watermen, our contracted boat, The Paradigm Shift, in Alaska, and more.
Nothing in our fish case has ever been frozen…it is always 100% guaranteed fresh!
